How you can increase the bond between you and your horse

You love your horse, but sometimes it seems like you are both on different planets energetically. You want to ride - he/she doesn’t. You want to go left - he/she wants to go right. You just want to de-stress and ride - he/she wants to simply eat hay and nudge you for a treat. It can be challenging.

So, how do you increase the bond with your horse if the communication has broken down? Here are a few ways to help you get started in the right direction.

  1. First you want to get them on some form of schedule and be consistent with it. They respond better to a regular schedule.

  2. You want to pay attention to your horses’ cues. Are their ears back, are they kicking the ground, do they seem irritated?

  3. Don’t make everything a task. Have clear work and play times for them. Your horse may want some extra attention as you do, not just to be a creature to ride and release your anxiety.

  4. Don’t approach your horse when your own energy is “off” as they will immediately sense and feel it at a distance, even before you can see them. Take a few deep breaths outside of the barn to release your tension, and ground yourself before you approach your horse.

  5. Spend some time with your equine friend by scratching their back, talking to them, or grooming them. Show them that you are there for them as much as they are for you.

  6. Take it slow. Walk him/her out of the barn with confidence and respect before you start any ride.

Remember that your horse has feelings too. They even have bad days just as you do; after all, they are sensitive beings. To increase the bond with your equine friend, you want them to feel wanted, respected, and loved. Keep in mind that your horse tends to mirror your mood and reactions. (This is why horses respond so well to each type of CEM Energy Healing session programs and events.)

You can’t get upset at your horse for pushing back when you come into the barn filled with any number of unconscious emotions, such as anxiety or anger. They may not know where or why you were pushed by life into your tensions, but they definitely feel it now, and want to both protect themselves and help you release it, not always an easy combination to handle, either for them or you.

You may find that no matter what you do your horse may still exhibit behavior issues. There may be something else at play here. As with human beings, horses tend to hold onto old emotions they may not have released causing them to be fearful or irritable. When this happens, you may want to turn to Energy Medicine and either our Chiron Mirror Program pr Chiron Observer Effect Group Events.. This is where your energy practitioner can help both you and your equine release pent up emotions and/or traumas to help you both gain a better bond and understanding of each other’s energies and needs.

As with any relationship, it takes time to get to know all the little cues and idiosyncrasies you both may have. The bond between the owner and the equine comes with time and patience. Key word here is patience. Nothing happens overnight and there may be times you feel you’ve made no real progress. But the more you talk with your horse, interact with kindness, consistency, and positivity the more your equine will respect and trust you.
