What emotional overload is your pet picking up from you?

When you experience emotions; frustration, hurt, anger, self-doubt, and fear - even though you may feel these emotions well up inside of you, what you don’t realize is how they spill over into each room or place you enter.

Whether you know this or not, people can feel you coming into a room way before you enter based on the energy you are carrying and bringing with you.

Keep in mind this is what makes humans so unique from the rest of Mother Nature. We experience our emotions inside and out. That’s why we can experience what is known as emotional overload. Even if we try to hide them and push them deep down inside, they can still escape out into the world across the shopping aisle, out through the open car window, or the office partition. Our emotions not only show up on our faces but in our bodies with the movements we make.

Haven’t you ever experienced being in the doctor’s office and feeling a dark cloud starting to form in the waiting room only to find shortly after a man or woman walks in the room filled with anger? They don’t simply go up to the front desk and check-in, they announce it with their actions and attitude behind each word that comes out of their mouth. “Great, I guess this is gonna take a while. Look at the waiting room. I have to get out of here quickly, how long with this take?”

You start to feel sorry for the front desk staff and hope to God they don’t sit next to you. Now imagine how your pets feel when you come home in a mood. Your pets may be thinking:

  • “Great, he didn’t have a great day today. Maybe if I follow him into the room, I can help cheer him up.”

  • “Nope that didn’t work, he simply yelled at me and kicked me out of the way.”

  • “Time to go hide until the storm rolls over.”

  • Unlike people, they don’t know how to counteract your moods. All they know how to do is love you. But if you find that your pet simply goes in hiding when you come home, maybe it’s time to find out why.

  • Are you allowing little things to build up into a dark storm when you get home?

  • Are you holding onto the whole day of events?

  • Did you forget to let go of your day’s experiences and bad energy before you walked into your home?

Can Pets do this, too? In a word, yes.

What you don’t realize is that your emotional storms, anger, hurt and even emotional overload are being absorbed by your pets. As with you, they have an emotional awareness meter as well.

They can feel your mood and energy before you even open the door. They are in tune with your body language, tone, and inflections of the face. They know exactly whether you are angry or hurt, sad or happy, and they tend to take on your mood internally themselves because that’s what they do out of devotion to you.

They love you and only want to see you happy so they will try anything to get a smile out of you. You may not want any ill will to befall your pet family, but until you deal with the emotions you constructively bring home, even if unconsciously, you may start to see your pets start acting differently, not eating, lying around, or simply ignoring you. When this happens, it’s time to get your emotions in check. But how?

  • First and foremost, breathing can help release and calm these emotions. Take a deep breath in and let it out. Take another deep breath in and let it out. Each time imagine your mind going blank and erasing the day or events that lead up to these emotions.

  • Keep track of the emotions that come up during certain situations or with particular people and ask yourself, “Why does this make me feel this way?”  Are these emotions mine or someone else’s?  Once you find the answer you can work on a resolution.

  • Find a quiet place inside or out where you can sit, breathe, and ground yourself, letting those thoughts and emotions return to Mother Earth.

  • If you find that it’s your job, maybe it’s time to start looking for a new one. Life is way too short to deal with a job that depletes or diminishes you.

  • If you find it’s someone in your life who is causing emotional strife, it may be time to take a break and distance yourself.

  • It may be time to consult with an Energy Practitioner to help you release these emotions for good.

Just know that your pets always want to help you heal. They want to see that smile on your face. They want you to be happy. This is one of the reasons they will follow you around the room and sit next to you. They want to comfort you. Take a moment to allow them to love you. Cuddle with them and realize this loving fur ball or goofy face wants to help.

Whether you believe it or not, animals are one of the best ways to heal a wounded heart, hurt feelings, and emotional turmoil. But we also must realize that they deserve the same loving care from us.

If you find you need help with this, I invite you to contact me to see how I can help you release those toxic emotions and help you both regain harmony in the house.

Here’s to happiness for both you and your pet.
