Excerpt: The Polar Bear as Spiritual Guide

The polar bear has long been a magnet of interest to people, wanting to understand why they are so drawn to the far north and its challenges to survival for anyone or any animal who lives or visits there.

We often see animals reflecting the climate and terrain that they live in and polar bears are no exception. They live on whitened ice flows and icebergs and snow covered terrain and as we see them, they look perfectly white. What we don't often understand is that their fur is actually translucent or transparent, and their skin is quite dark almost a dark black yet they look like the new fallen snow to us, so that in itself is mystery enough to attract many.
