Seasonal transitions can be challenging, especially as we approach winter’s end cycle. Shorter days, less sunlight, and colder weather often lead to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)—a condition that impacts mental, emotional, and even physical well-being. Add to this the weight of loss, endings, and holiday stress, and it’s no wonder many feel exhausted, or your energy is off kilter during this time.
Many of the reasons you feel this heaviness is due to lack of light as this affects both the serotonin and melatonin in your system impacting your mood and sleep. Also, as nature slows down, so do we—energetically, mentally, emotionally, and physically. During This time of year often brings many forms of endings for many—whether this is the passing of a loved one or a pet.
This season is not just about endings—it’s about preparing for renewal. This darkness invites you to look inward and find what needs healing or releasing. This is a time to honor the stillness and rest to prepare for growth as you accept the cycles of life as we move through the phases of personal, spiritual, and cosmic changes.
For a variety of reasons many people have a hard time this time of year, but you can move through these stressful transitions with ease with some of these key tips:
Embrace Light Where You Can by utilizing light therapy lamps or sitting near windows during daylight and/or take short walks outside—even on cloudy days.
Listen to Your Body. If you feel tired, rest without guilt and nourish yourself with warm, grounding foods.
Honor Your Energy Needs with an energy tune-up.
Practice Self-Care with meditation, journaling, energy work, or gentle movement like yoga. You may even consider warm baths or aromatherapy for relaxation.
Don’t Fight the Darkness. Accept that this is a time for slowing down to reflect on what you’ve learned and what you’re ready to release.
Honor Loss and Seek Closure by creating a ritual to remember loved ones or pets. Allow your grief to flow, don’t rush the healing.
Prepare for Renewal by setting your intentions for the new year instead of rigid resolutions. Visualize what you want to invite into your life.
The end of a cycle is not the end of hope—it’s the seed of transformation. By honoring this season’s healing energy, listening to your body, and practicing self-care, you can move through darkness with grace and emerge ready for the light of new beginnings.
