Do you hear that familiar grumbling coming from your stomach, especially after you eat? Whether you want to hear this or not, your stomach is trying to tell you something. However, are you listening or simply ignoring the signs? Believe it or not your stomach is one of the most fascinating organs in your body and plays a crucial role in your overall health and well-being. But before we talk about key tools to help you have tummy health, let’s talk about what your tummy is trying to tell you.
One of the keyways to stomach health is educating yourself on The Brain-Gut Connection, which is considered your second brain. But unlike the brain in your skull, your gut brain is quite different. Let’s find out exactly what your Gut Brain controls.
Digestion: Which starts once you swallow that yummy food to break down your food. On the energetic/consciousness level it is about digesting life and thoughts.
Bacteria Buster: Your tummy helps kill harmful bacteria in the food that you eat.
Nutrient Absorption: The stomach breaks down your food into nutrients to help your body absorb it.
Your Mood: Is directly affected by your Gut Brain as it communicates with your central nervous system (CNS), affecting your emotions. Any irritation in your gut can trigger mood changes which can be explained as irritable bowel syndrome which can cause anxiety and depression. The emotions and energies associated with the stomach are worry & anxiety, confusion and thinking. They impact your digestion and gut brain in many ways, not always good.
Tummy Control: Not only does your stomach have many superpowers, but the best one yet is how your tummy can sense danger, such as spoiled food, by getting rid of it quickly either through your mouth or the other end. Another way of describing it, your ‘gut instinct’. That internal nudge that tells us something very important.
Knowing how your Gut Brain works, how can you ensure you make your tummy happy by being able to really digest life in a positive way, as well as live a life filled with joy? Here are a few ways to get better gut health for a healthy tummy and better mindset.
Being Mindful of What You Eat: When you pay attention to what you eat, chew your food slowly, and savor every meal your gut will thank you. Make sure your meal time is relaxed and calm so you can properly digest what you are taking in.
Eat More Probiotics: These are considered friendly bacteria, and they can positively impact your gut health. Consider incorporating yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, or kimchi into your diet.
Fiber-Rich Foods: Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes to help support a healthy gut microbiome.
Manage Your Stress: Stress can affect your gut as much as it can affect your mood. You can help both your Brain and Gut by practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, and/or energy medicine to help you stave off the stress and anxiety.
Drink More Water: Water truly keeps things moving smoothly through your digestive system.
Limit Consumption of Processed Foods: These are one of the worst culprits of tummy trouble.
Learn To Listen to Your Gut: If you find something doesn’t agree with you, pay attention to what it is. This can apply to actual physical food as well as everything else you are taking in emotionally and mentally. Believe it or not, your gut knows best! Earn to trust your gut more!
When you work to eat better, have less stress in your life, and pay attention to your body is when you truly can live a healthy and happy life.
Here’s to your gut health.
